Valleyfield Fertilizer Corporation’s strategy is to build and operate fertilizer production facilities in locations ideally suitable for sourcing raw materials such as muriate of potash (MOP) and sulphuric acid and selling two end products: sulphate of potash (SOP) and hydrochloric acid (HCL).

SOPerior Fertilizer Corp. intends to build an 40,000 tpa SOP plant in Valleyfield, Quebec, located approximately 50 km west of Montreal. Valleyfield is well suited because of its local supply of sulphuric acid and close proximity to customers for hydrochloric acid. The primary raw material, MOP, can be easily delivered from Saskatchewan to the locations’ rail-side production facilities. SOP can be shipped through the St. Lawrence River from port facilities located within one kilometre from the production facilities.

The facility will use the proven Mannheim Process to react potassium chloride with sulphuric acid to produce high quality SOP and hydrochloric acid.

Valleyfield is well positioned to take advantage of an imbalance in the supply/demand situation in North America for SOP.

Located in close proximity to the only self-managed port in Canada, the Corporation will utilize the existing inter-modal installations for efficient access to road, rail, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. The port is home to warehousing, storage, and handling services available to port customers. It is expected that the majority of the Corporation’s potassium sulphate product will be shipped through the port facilities.

Valleyfield, Quebec contains rail lines from Canadian rail companies CN and CP as well as a recently opened depot for US-based CSX. Valleyfield, Quebec is home to many industrial companies including several complimentary service providers, customers, and suppliers.
